I tackle some very difficult subjects in my novels and this page is for anyone who may be affected by or would like more information about the situations some of my characters find themselves in.

Most of my characters are young – late teens – early twenties, but the things they have been through don’t just affect young people. Abuse, addiction and self harm affect people of ALL ages. Self harm especially is seen by many as a ‘teenage’ problem but this is simply not the case. The fact is, in general adults are much less likely to seek help therefore they don’t show in the ‘statistics’.

I am by no means an expert in any of the fields I write about – some things I have experience with, others are from my imagination. One thing I do know is not enough people seek help when they find themselves in such distressing situations. The idea of talking to someone about yourself or a loved one might seem difficult, embarrassing or downright terrifying… but I just felt like I needed to share, without being patronising, that there ARE people who will listen if you need them to. And if you’re not ready to talk, some of these websites have some great advice and support networks to help you through until you’re ready.
